The past is very hard to deal with especially when it effects the present. Some will say, "It effects you because you let it," but in truth it effects us because we are still tied to our past. Memories, flashbacks, dreams, songs, smells, even colors can bind us to memories and make us go back there even when we don't want to.
Even when we know we can't go back, but it Happens. Sometimes our present love interest tries everything to break us free from our Ex's grasp, but if you're still in love with your Ex the best thing to do is set your current love interest free until your truly set free of your past. They will only be hurt in the process. Easier said then done, I know, but I can't help how I feel.
